Download Universos

Universos is free, with no account and no subscription. On Windows and Android, the store installs the app and delivers every new version on its own. On Mac and Linux, download the installer here; after that, the app itself tells you when a new version is out.

Windows

Windows 10 and 11. The Microsoft Store is the simplest way.

How to install from the .exe
  1. Open the downloaded file.
  2. The installer isn't digitally signed yet, so Windows may show “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Follow the installer. Universos shows up in the Start menu.

Android

Phone and tablet, through Google Play.

Get it on Google Play

Mac

Pick by processor: in the Apple menu, under About This Mac, “Chip Apple M1, M2…” means Apple Silicon and “Processor Intel” means Intel.

How to install on a Mac

The app isn't signed by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch (sometimes saying the app “is damaged”). It isn't: it just lacks the signature. To allow it:

  1. Open the .dmg and drag Universos into Applications.
  2. Open Terminal (in Applications → Utilities), paste the command below and press Return:
    xattr -cr /Applications/Universos.app
  3. Open Universos as usual. You only need to do this once; updates from inside the app don't bring the warning back.

Without Terminal: try to open the app, dismiss the warning and go to System Settings → Privacy & Security. Near the bottom, Universos shows up with an Open Anyway button. If the warning says the app is damaged, that button doesn't appear, and the command above is the way.

Linux

64-bit computers (x86_64). Use your distribution's package, or the AppImage, which runs on most of them.

How to install on Linux

Run the command in the folder the file was downloaded to (usually ~/Downloads).

  • .deb (Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, Pop!_OS): double-click the file, or
    sudo apt install ./Universos_*_amd64.deb
  • .rpm (Fedora, openSUSE):
    sudo dnf install ./Universos-*.x86_64.rpm
  • AppImage (any distribution): make the file executable and run it.
    chmod +x Universos_*_amd64.AppImage
    ./Universos_*_amd64.AppImage
If it doesn't open on Ubuntu 22.04 or newer, install FUSE 2: sudo apt install libfuse2 (on 24.04, libfuse2t64).

The .deb and .rpm make .universo files open with a double-click. The AppImage installs nothing on the system.

After installing

Your world lives in a single .universo.json file, which you carry between PC and tablet with the tool you already use. What changed in each version is on What's new.
